Are women better at reading body language?admin
Did you happen to see any of these videos on Instagram or TikTok ? Women who signal with two different looks whether they need help or whether they are fine. The differences are often minimal, but after a small poll in the editorial office, it was confirmed that every one of us women can tell the difference.
Better reading of body language
This would indicate that women are better at interpreting and noticing body language. In the comments to the video on Instagram you can already find the first ideas as to what could be the reason. For example, a lady suspects: “Because we grow up learning microaggression as a power game. ??? ? We pay attention to things like the tone of voice, men don’t learn it like we do”.
Another suggests: “Women are forced to learn this to be safe ? and tell other women to protect each other without putting us in danger ? .”
Funnily enough, both women aren’t all that wrong with their reasoning. A study by Marina Pavlova found that men and women are equally good at perceiving body language. The big difference, however, lies in the focus. Women perceive angry body language and emotions better, and can already tell from small elements when the mood of the other person changes to the negative. Men, on the other hand, are good at recognizing happy emotions. For women, it makes an important difference in recognizing what the other person’s intentions are and whether they are well disposed towards them.
In addition, when it comes to communication, women are very much focused on the person they are listening to. It starts with little things, like nodding your head while we’re listening, a quick “Mhm” that says something like: I’m listening, I’m with you, keep talking! This is less the case for men. Actively observe this in a conversation.
Women therefore do not necessarily communicate better, but differently. passive. They are better at interpreting and listening. This is also discussed on the podcast Man Enough in the episode with Emily Baldoni and host author Liz Plank explains: “Women are better at communication because we need to be better. We need to read a man’s body language, we need to know what his intention is I would like to live in a world where women don’t have to be better.”
Because that would mean women don’t have to tell the difference between the two looks above because there doesn’t have to be one. There doesn’t have to be a silent code for “save me” because everyone is safe. So we can only agree with Liz Plank that we also wish that none of this was necessary anymore.
