If I hadn’t written content, I might have had a real career a few years ago. “Headquarters” work where I can comfortably sit on the couch, comfortably dressed will be replaced by a suit and a small corner work like many other office workers. But thank goodness, that didn’t happen.
In retrospect, I must admit that content creation has been a part of my business since day one. Not necessarily repeating the same spelling to remind you of something, but in one way or another:
- I have been invited to be a regular writer on ViperChill and other major blogs.
- In 2009 I was invited to write content for an SEO company for a fee of $ 150,000 (but in the end things don’t get done and I will tell you why later).
- I continuously write valuable content for clients with salaries ranging from $ 150 to $ 400 per article.
- I’ve managed micro-content teams and lots of other jobs.
Although I find it amusing to highlight my achievements, I still want to share with you an idea of the work that I am doing. Although I don’t get rich from copywriting or content writing, however, that job has given me a pretty good left-hand income for many years. I think it’s more helpful to write about people wanting to leave a desk job and go on their own path. After going through lots of work and client relationships, I have learned one thing that I’m glad I overcame the challenge.

How do I find content writing jobs?

1: Find a job from your own branded blog
Naturally, the best way to build the career of a content writer is to start a blog that serves as a tool to promote your copywriting abilities, run by you, and bring your own “quality”. This idea is extremely simple. Your blog and people will visit it. At least one of them will want to hire you for a post, or, you can use the blog itself as your resume format when you negotiate with other clients. For example, if I find a content writing job that I really want to do, I can email the recruiter with something like this:

I have been quite successful with content writing on my Blog site. Attached to that, I have submitted a few articles for you to have references about my writing style and writing style.

Instead of sending out a CV, you are showing your potential employer and the creative achievements you have made. This will be really useful if you have an active blog with lots of likes and comments from social networks.
So how can the blog help you the most?
- Regular updates and branding
It sounds weird, but recruiters can make easy choices based on CV (or blog) layout. If they have 50 applications, to pass, you have to make sure you perform most professionally right from the first round. You should have a good topic, not ramble, and focus on the content. You may want to image a well-directed blog to let employers know that you are serious about the job.
- There’s a clear Call to Action button
You should have a clear CTA button that shows your viewers where they can find out about your service. A tab on the menu is fine too, but it’s better if you use ads.
- Develop a separate landing page
To convey all the information about your copywriting ability, why you are passionate about it, and most importantly, why their home should choose you, … you should include the benefits that you can bring to your home. recruitment.
- Put on work experience
This is a very important factor because no one wants to hire an inexperienced copywriter. Show the client/recruiter that they are not the first partners you have worked with.

- Use Skype

- Focus on 1 or 2 main pages
If you spread your interest in these websites, you end up with insufficient feedback or plus points to help you find a better job. - Pay attention when bidding
I have posted job information on websites quite a few times and I am always amazed by how often people copy and paste bidding responses. You need to build your profile well, and at the same time, find out the hiring history of potential places. Many of these sites are well-defined and designed to protect employers. You need to know clearly how the site works because a mistake can also result in you getting banned, and it will be very embarrassing if your account has been active for quite a while. What income level should I suggest?
Over the years, I have come to realize that quotes are an art. You need to be subtle and skillful in proposing how much you will be paid. You might not expect that the following seemingly unrelated factors will determine your salary:
- How did customers find you?
If they come to you because they like your style, you can set a higher price, if you are bidding to apply for a job with 100 other competitors.
- What is your experience?
Do you have any experience writing relevant articles? Are you sure you can meet your word volume requirement within a fixed time frame? Are your abilities good enough to accommodate their work? You need to be physically aware of your level of experience. You can completely get remuneration if the quality of work is not enough to satisfy customers.
- How much do you get paid per hour?
I realized that the salary I set myself in for an hour determines how much a client wants to pay me. When I started to put a high price on my work, the client was happy to accept the salary I offered, because they knew that I would get the job done on time with good quality.
- What kind of work is that?
If someone hires you just to write small articles to thicken your site and serve strange SEO goals, they won’t pay as much as places where blogs/websites are trying to build quality content for people. Different jobs deserve different salaries.
Someone said, “Do a job that pays $ 500 as if you would get $ 5,000 from it, and you will soon get $ 5,000 job.” I was overwhelmed by this statement and really changed my working motto.
I fully believe in customer care and ensure that the reputation that I build is quality and care. A lot of people don’t realize that it is the writing, the designs, and the other things they do that can help clients grow their business. If you help them achieve success, they will always accompany you.
Salary is based on word count and salary based on the number of articles
Once you get into a content creation career, you will realize that there are 2 ways to pay for a job: word or article number. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages:
- Pay by word count
For example, you will probably earn more if you can complete an article correctly in 500 words, which is very rare. Usually, to complete a well-written essay, you need 530 or 540 words. The downside of this payroll method is that you have to get past the word limit if that’s what you set out to the client.
- Salary by article
This way, you will be less limited to the number of words you need to use in your article (sometimes very beneficial when you encounter topics with too much information) but will also be a problem if you continue to exceed the specified word limit.
It’s best to start thinking about how many words you would be comfortable writing in an hour, and don’t forget that you still need time searching for information in the writing process. After all, figure out whether the money you make from each word you write is worth the time you spend.
For example, You could write 1,000 words an hour and you think your 1-hour work is worth $ 50. That means you earn $ 0.05 per word.
Your next job is to find customers willing to pay you the salary you want.
Plan your time allocation and determine your maximum productivity
One of the first obstacles that you will hardly avoid as a content writer is time management. This will always put pressure on you and could keep you from getting enough sleep.
So what should you do with it?
First, you need to really know your limits. As a new entrepreneur, we tend to go all out in the hopes of getting things done as quickly as possible: staying up all night, drinking a lot of coffee, and facing stress all the time until we can’t stand it anymore. and exploded. Denied a job $ 150,000
As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, I had to reject $ 150,000 worth of content for a few months of execution. The problem lies in my productivity.
I’m pretty good at quotes and winning deals, but then hiring someone else to write, edit it and deliver it to the client on time is probably too much for my team. We didn’t meet the deadline and, after a few days, had to quit the job.
It is a memorable lesson in managing time and team members. However, if you pass this challenge, you will receive a worthy remuneration.
Win better contracts
One of the things you must define from the beginning when you are a copywriter and content creator is this: you are a writer of quality or quantity. Clearly distinguishing these two aspects will help you get better deals.
If you write poor quality articles at affordable prices, you will have to write a lot of articles to have a decent income. But if you want to write quality articles and really write a lot, you won’t have the resources and time to get the job done properly.
If you are the type that can write a lot, my advice is to bring together a team of writers and content editors to meet the requirements of large contracts. If you only make small profits, you need to learn how to scale so that you get more contracts.

Copywriting vs Content writing
Maybe you will question why I wrote this post exclusively for content writing and not copywriting. I wouldn’t say this article will help you become a better copywriter because this profession requires a lot of unique skills, while the word content writer will better describe the writing profession.
You see, if you think of yourself as a copywriter, you have to make sure that your ability to write ads, set landing pages and copy websites can turn into a good black sales channel. A content writer, on the other hand, just needs to write articles with the target of keywords or maybe that content website needs to provide more information than it is to reach sales goals. Of course, future clients can decide whether you should be a content writer or a copywriter, but in my opinion, this article would be more suitable for a content writer than a copywriter, although it can be applied in both jobs.

Why is this just a “close enough” guide?
Recently, I’ve realized that most of us (and myself) love to learn these things but have a lot of difficulties getting started on a project or idea. Every time I read a post titled “The Complete Guide to…”, I usually only get excited for a week, and then it all gets back into place.
