Mountain bike: how to equip your child?admin
Are your intrepid little ones keen on mountain biking and will soon be ready to take on rough trails? Make sure they’re properly equipped before you let them go!
1. The helmet
For beginners, the regular bicycle helmet will do just fine ( here’s how to choose a child’s bicycle helmet ). But to attack steeper terrain and descend steeper descents, it will be wise to equip yourself with a helmet specially designed for mountain biking. This type of helmet covers more of the neck and has a visor.
Both novices and more seasoned cyclists; no one is safe from bad falls and the injuries that can result. That’s why everyone should wear protective gear. While elbow and knee pads are the basics, those who plan to engage in extreme descents or competitions also have every interest in equipping themselves with protection for the neck, chest and back.
Gloves for mountain biking are characterized by their robust construction and the fact that they cover the entire hand, unlike models for road biking, for example. They can be padded for more protection or even be equipped with silicone tips that allow a good grip of the handles and better handling of the brakes and gears.
Regular athletic shoes can do just fine, as can clothes your child already wears for other activities. The important thing is to bet on flexible and comfortable fabrics (beware of the seams which could become irritating). On cooler days, dress him in several light layers and remember to slip a waterproof windbreaker into his bag.
5. The bag
For long getaways, a bag will be very useful for carrying food, warmer or spare clothes and repair equipment (practical in the event of a problem!). Because a regular rucksack might be bulky, there are rucksacks and waist packs specifically designed for cycling. They hug the body better and attach to it properly without restricting movement.
