Study More than 9 hours of sleep is harmful

Of course, sleeping in at the weekend, looking at the clock for the first time at 10 a.m. with half-open eyes and then turning around again – that can be nice. However, if you do this too often, you are not doing your body any good.

Six to nine hours of sleep is optimal
Long sleeps are not as healthy as you think. This is now shown by a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology . For the research project, sleeping habits, genetic information and medical histories of 500,000 participants were documented and observed over a period of seven years. The result shows that sleeping six to nine hours a day is ideal and reduces the risk of a heart attack.

Sleeping more than nine hours increases the risk of heart attack
The analysis of the subjects also showed that more than nine hours of sleep increases our risk of a heart attack by 34 percent. Sleeping more than ten hours increases the risk to 52 percent. But, no need to panic, the study also reveals good news: All those who have a genetically higher probability of heart disease can reduce the risk of heart attack by 18 percent – and that just by observing the optimal amount of sleep. Well then: Good night, sleep tight!
